The Taekwondo Dragon Club has participated with 5 of its members in the 14 th Edition of the British Masters Open held at the K2 Arena, in Crawley. The club managed to grasp a total of 4 medals. The event kicked off with the weigh-in for those participating in sparring categories and soon after followed with the meeting between coaches. The arena was divided into 4 areas for Kyorugi (sparring), 1 for Poomsae (pattern) & 1 for warming up.
First to start was Duncan Munro who competed in the Poomsae 'Pewee B' category where he placed second in his category amongst other 6. He obtained an average mark of 6.55 just a .05 difference from the winner.
Chloe Vassallo the youngest of the team won gold in her very first foreign experience after beating her 2 rivals in the ' Pewees Female B -25Kgs' category 11-0 & 7-2.
Kyle Vassallo who competed in the 'Junior Male C - 68Kgs won silver after loosing his third and last bout 11-8 winning the first two 7-5 & 12-3.
Mauro Busuttil who competed in the 'Senior Male B -74Kgs' won Bronze loosing his only bout at 13-11.
Lynsey Fenech competed in the 'Cadets Female A -35 KGS who lost her first bout at 11-1.
The team was lead by the club head instructor Stephen Formosa 4th Dan. Joining the team on a national level was Dr.Christopher Vella, who recently was graduated to 6 th Dan under the hands for Master Kytu Dang 7th Dan who is a world champion in Poomsae. Dr. Vella won gold in the Masters Category after beating his other 2 rivals amongst whom there was an athlete in the British national team. Dr. Vella coached the young Duncan Munro.
The Taekwondo Dragon Club is now gearing up for the local national championships and for the International Park Pokal to be held during the first week of December in Sindelfingen, Germany.
